The ideas and technology behind CatGenie began taking shape in 1998, driven by a team of creative thinkers and engineers who set out to fundamentally change the way people manage cat waste. Their vision was ambitious: create a system that is truly self-cleaning, flushes waste away, and reduces dependence on traditional clay cat litter.
Over the next decade, we developed and refined several prototypes before introducing the original CatGenie 60 in 2007. By combining automatic cleaning and flushing, CatGenie offered cat owners an entirely new approach to cat waste management. Customer feedback and continued advances in engineering, safety, and cleaning technology led to the CatGenie 120, followed by an even bigger leap forward.
As smart technology became part of everyday life, we developed CatGenie A.I., bringing intelligent features, customizable settings, personalized recommendations, reminders, and an accompanying app to the cat box experience. Launched in North America in late 2019, CatGenie A.I. continued our mission to make life with cats cleaner and easier.
Our innovation hasn't stopped there. With CatGenie Whoosh, we've expanded our approach to meet the needs of even more cat families, offering another way to automatically manage cat waste without storing it in a drawer or requiring owners to scoop, bag, and dispose of it themselves.
Today, CatGenie A.I. and CatGenie Whoosh reflect the same vision that inspired our earliest designs: a cleaner home, less time spent managing cat waste, and more time enjoying life with your cats.

The ideas and technology that you know and love as the CatGenie today began taking shape as early as 1998 and the same team of creative minds and engineers is still developing our products today. Our leaders set out to develop a cat waste management system that could be self-cleaning, self-flushing and eliminate the need for earth un-friendly litter all together. We manufactured several predecessors of the CatGenie over the course of a decade and as the first litter-free option of its kind in the world, time has presented many evolutions of our original cat box and we continue to innovate new and better solutions today.
The first CatGenie, the 60 model, was sold in 2007. Feedback from our customers and innovations in our mechanical processes, safety features and cleaning functions lead to the release of the 120 model almost 10 years later. As Artificial Intelligence and "smart" devices began to become an everyday part of our lives, our team set to work developing an A.I.-managed version of the CatGenie that could customize recommendations, reminders and device settings for the unique usage needs of each household. They also built an accompanying app to provide a user-friendly experience to interact with your CatGenie. In 2019, the CatGenie A.I. was released in North America- revolutionizing the cat box industry again.
After more than 2 decades, CatGenie remains the only self-washing, self-flushing, litter-free cat waste management system in the world. We are proud of the impact we have had on our planet by reducing clay-litter dependency and on the lives of hundreds of thousands of feline families around the world.
