This is the second CatGenie I've owned...my first one didn't have "Cat Activation". Needless to say, if I've bought two, I obviously love the machine! Initially I bought the CatGenie because I had a herniated disc and bending over to clean out the litter box several times daily was painful for me. Even more painful was having to haul the "used" heavy, wet, clumping clay litter to the trash can. Just buying the unused litter (having to get it off the shelf and put it into my shopping cart) was painful. And, there was only one brand of clumping litter that I would buy, and sometimes it was hard to find. Prior to the CatGenie, I even owned two of those machines that "rake" the clumping litter into a container, but once they broke, the company wouldn't fix them...they were just more garbage to go into the landfill. Clumping clay litter doesn't break down well...can you imagine what the landfills will be like in 100 years? (Have you seen the movie "Wally"?). The granules the CatGenie uses break down in the sewer system, so they're environmentally-friendly. Some improvements I'd like to see on the next model: 1) Make the "Cat Activation" our choice of how long it should run per day (instead of just 14 hours). If given the choice, I'd have it run 24 hours a day. 2) Have the engineers figure out a way to conserve granules: after every run, there are always granules in the toilet, even if my cats just went #1. 3) Make available different dome heights to accommodate larger cats. In conclusion, I recommend this machine whole-heartedly! It does seem expensive at first, but when you factor in the cost of premium clumping clay litter...you will actually save money.
