I was so surprised to see how expertly this component is designed! Not a bit of litter is wasted and it seems to remove all of the "bad stuff" from the box.

I love my CatGenie and I'll never go back to ordinary cat boxes, but I have to agree with the reviewers requesting smaller holes. My cats are all weird and always eating something strange that doesn't get caught by the vertical slits (toilet paper, peas as mentioned by another reviewer, chewed bits of my rubber exercise mats, unchewed bits of dry crunchy treats that seem to pass through undigested, etc). I still have to occasionally scoop those out by hand (I use the tiny scoops they sell in pet stores for hermit crabs LOL). But this is a small price to pay for the convenience and cleanliness of this product. Did I mention I LOVE my CatGenie???

I agree with Tracy that it's great but would be better if there were smaller holes towards the bottom to catch the small particles (and non poop particles like peas or cat food). My toddler grabbed the scoop once and broke one of the spindle things but I don't notice a difference in it's performance. Replacement cost isn't prohibitive but I'd like a stronger quality product for those oops moments if I have to replace it.

The scoop is great because it picks up most everything how ever it would be better if there were smaller holes toward the bottom edge to catch the smaller pooh particles!
